What if I want more than just Irish channels?
You can combine SAORVIEW with free-to-air satellite services to give you a
broader range of channels. You need a SAORVIEW box or TV with a satellite tuner,
connected to an aerial and satellite dish. These are known as combination boxes
or TVs.
Why are the Irish channels not available on the free-to-air satellite?
The channels couldn’t be made available on the Astra 28 satellite as this
satellite will broadcast beyond Ireland (all of UK, parts of Europe). Irish
channels do not have the rights to broadcast into the UK and Europe. Had these
channels been on this platform it would therefore have put Irish broadcasters in
breach of copyright and broadcast license agreements and resulted in increased
costs for acquired programmes and home produced programmes.
